Local Housing Allowance

The following table shows the LHA rates for Carlisle City Council. The Rent Service will provide the Council with the LHA rates on a monthly basis.  The new rates are effective from the first day of the month. The current rate will be published each month on this website.

LHA rates from 1st September 2010

Bedrooms

You are allowed one bedroom for:

• every adult couple (married or unmarried)
• any other adult aged 16 years or over
• any two children aged under 10 years
• any two children of the same sex aged under 16 years
• any other child.

Single claimants under 25 years old will be entitled to the shared accommodation rate.

Single claimants over 25 years old and couples without dependent children will be entitled to the 1 bedroom rate providing they have exclusive use of a property of at least that size.

The maximum number of bedrooms you can claim for is 5.The LHA rate for 6 or more bedrooms will be the same as the 5 bedroom rate.
