Council Tax
Council Tax is a charge made by the Council in order to provide
local services such as education, social services, libraries,
police, leisure centres, refuse collection and recycling.
You can pay your Council Tax
bill online, by telephone, by post or in person. You can
now manage your Council Tax account
online. To do this, you must register and request a personal
identification number (PIN). Once registered you have the option to
request your bills electronically.
The amount of money you pay in Council
Tax pays for all services delivered by Carlisle City Council,
Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Police Authority and the Parish
Councils. Carlisle City Council acts as Tax Collector for all these
authorities. To see how this money is spent see the Council Tax Summary in the downloadable
documents section below.
Most domestic properties are charged Council Tax. There is
one bill per property, whether it is a
house, bungalow, flat, maisonette or mobile home, and whether it is
owned or rented.
In this section you can also find out how
Council Tax is calculated; typical discounts, exemptions
and relief for disabled people; and
what happens if you don't pay.
