Cumbria Logistics Employer Forum

The first meeting of the CLEF steering group was held on Thursday 28 January when the group met to agree some roles and objectives for the future. Andy Hallington from Carrs Billington was appointed as Chairman and John Scott from Enesco as Vice-Chairman. In addition, the steering group was agreed as Chris Fylan (Skills for Logistics), Peter Scott (BOCM Pauls), Don Taylor (Carlisle City Council), Tony Higgins (System Training), Tony McCormick (Sealy UK) and John Outhwaite (Reays Coaches).

The steering group has established the following objectives for the forum:

1 Promote the growth of the logistics sector in Cumbria – by encouraging new business development, further employment opportunities and establishing Cumbria as a logistics destination.

2 Increase the awareness and pro. le of logistics in Cumbria – by promoting Logistics Academy North West, increasing awareness of opportunities in logistics within schools, colleges, employment agencies and at job fairs.

3. Provide a one stop shop for CLEF membership on training and development of people – by informing on training providers and funding available and keeping members abreast of changes in legislation with regards to training.

4. Provide a networking facility for CLEF members to share best practice.

5. Identify common issues affecting CLEF members and provide a forum for discussion and action.
