Workplace regulations

The Health and Safety at Work etc  Act (HASWA) 1974 is an enabling act which allows the Secretary of State and other designated Ministers to make health and safety regulations (Section1S) Regulations should be drawn up with the aim of maintaining or improving standards of health, safety and welfare Section 1S lays down the framework which must be adherred to when making health and safety regulations.

Examples of such Health and Safety at Work Act enabled Regulations are;

  • The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR)
  • The Control of substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH) and
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
