Welcome to the 2009 Best Bar None Scheme.

2008 saw Carlisle & Eden Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) adopt the exciting Best Bar None awards scheme. The UK-wide scheme, which is backed by the Home Office and British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) was piloted in Manchester in 2003 and has since been adopted by over eighty other Towns and Cities with great success.

Best Bar None is aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises with the ultimate intention of offering and maintaining a safer, more welcoming, attractive and lively drinking experience.

Best Bar None aims to reward licensees who provide good management, a safe and enjoyable environment for customers, discourage binge drinking and prevent alcohol-related crime. It encourages licensees to act responsibly and take pride in their premises and surroundings and, in doing so, put something back into the their town / city and local community.  The rewards for licensees include, the prestige of being part of the awards scheme, increased business within the area and lower insurance premiums resulting from the fact that they are running safer establishments.

The biggest winners in Best Bar None are the visitors to Carlisle & Eden, who are able to reap the rewards of a City and Town Centre that are more welcoming, attractive, lively and above all safe.  In 2008 the scheme was aimed at the City centre venues in Carlisle and the Town centre venues in Penrith.

In 2009 the scheme was extended to include all of Carlisle and Appleby.  The assessments were carried out during March and April, with the judging of the finalists in early May.  The Award Ceremony took place at Carlisle Racecourse on 19th May when accredited premises, category winners and the overall winner were announced and presentations made.  Over 200 people attended the event which was hosted by Robbie Dee with guests including Craig Mackey, Cumbria Chief Constable and the Mayor of Carlisle, Councilor William Graham.  A charity auction and roulette were held which raised £1,400 for CFM ‘Cash for Kids’ appeal.Best Bar None Logo
