The CDRP are required to publicly consult on the emerging priorities. The  Strategic Assessment is carried out annually, looks at changes in the levels and patterns of crime, disorder and substance misuse.

The main purposes of the strategic assessment is:

• to provide knowledge and understanding of community safety problems that will inform and enable the partners to understand patterns, shifts and trends,
• set clear and robust priorities,
• develop activity that is driven by reliable intelligence and meets the needs of the local community,
• deploy resources effectively and represent value for money.
