Public involvement

In scrutinising the policies of the Council, the scrutiny committees aim to reflect the needs and wishes of the communities served by the Council. The committees are made up of elected Members and this ensures that scrutiny is accountable and representative of the public at large.

But there can also be a more direct role for public involvement in scrutiny. Formal meetings of all the committees are held in public in the Civic Centre.

Other than just attending O&S meetings, there are other ways that you can play a larger role in scrutiny:

  • You may have looked at the agenda for one of the committees and have something specific to contribute, or wish to ask the committee a question;
  • You may be concerned about an issue which is not being discussed at a scrutiny committee and you think scrutiny should be considering the matter;
  • You may have an idea for a detailed piece of work, or subject review, for one of the committees;

In all these cases, please contact us and we will talk to the Chair of the relevant committee.
