Paper Raft Racing on the River Eden

The challenge to find the best paper raft in Carlisle will be held next Wednesday (29 August) in Rickerby Park.

Local children aged between 6 and 12 years old are being given the opportunity to take part in the countryside activity as part of a free 'Nature Detective' funday, held between 1pm and 3pm.

Organised by Carlisle City Council's Countryside section and Cumbria Wildlife Trust, the event will include the children making their own raft using bio-degradable materials either found within Rickerby Park or supplied on the day. They will then test them out and will watch them sail down the River Eden from a vantage point on the Memorial Bridge.

The best paper raft will be awarded within a commemorative certificate.

There is no need to pre-book for the event. Anyone wishing to attend should bring along suitable clothing and footwear.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone wishing to take part should meet at Rickerby Park's riverside car park and picnic area.
