Plan Approval marks New Chapter in Renaissance of Carlisle

(Date of issue: 4 March 2009)

Carlisle Renaissance’s Action Plan has now been approved by Carlisle City Council.

The Carlisle Renaissance Action Plan 2009-12 sets out four transformational priorities for the city, as well as what the partnership - made up of Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Cumbria Vision - plans to do this year to get them delivered.

Bryan Gray, Chair of Carlisle Renaissance Board, said:

"I’m delighted that Carlisle City Council has approved our Action Plan, which marks a new chapter in the renaissance of the city."

"The city has much to offer, and a great deal of potential. As we navigate a period of economic uncertainty it is now more important than ever that the public and private sector works together and focuses on priorities that have the potential to make a significant contribution to Carlisle - benefitting residents and businesses alike."

"The Carlisle Renaissance Action Plan sets out our four transformational priorities. These are working with partners to establish a world class University in the city, and support and promote Carlisle’s unique heritage and cultural offer. We also plan to improve the performance and competitiveness of the city centre, and help open up the employment opportunities of the M6 corridor."

"This is an exciting and challenging time for Carlisle. The city’s fortunes will not be transformed overnight. Carlisle Renaissance is committed to leading the way in making Carlisle a great place to live, work, and visit."

The Action Plan was formally approved by Carlisle City Council in its meeting on Tuesday 3 March. It has now received full approval from all founding members of Carlisle Renaissance.
