Shopmobility presented with new Paediatric Wheelchair

A photo opportunity has been organised to mark the presentation of a new paediatric wheelchair to Carlisle Shopmobility by the Knights of St Columba.

The presentation is set to take place on Friday 21 November, at the Old Town Hall, at 11.30 am at the Shopmobility Christmas Coffee Morning. The Knights of St Columba kindly donated £839, which allowed the purchase of this new piece of equipment for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

The Knights of St Columba are an Order of Catholic Laymen dedicated to the Service of the Church and fellow man. The Organisation, which is non-political, exists to support the mission of the Catholic Church and at the same time to work for the spiritual and material good of its members and their families.

Shopmobility - is a free service providing manual and powered scooters to anyone who has difficulty getting about on foot to help them shop and use the facilities of Carlisle City Centre. Shopmobility is located on level two of The Lanes Shopping Centre Car Park and is open Monday to Friday from 10.00am until 4.00pm and on Saturdays from 10.00am to 1.30pm.

Cllr Olwyn Luckley portfolio holder for Health and Communities said:

‘’Shopmobility plays a vital part in assisting anyone who has mobility difficulties in getting about in Carlisle City Centre, the Knights of St Columba in generously donating this new piece of equipment will ensure the service continues to provide access to the City Centre for residents and visitors alike.’’

Mr P Campbell, Secretary the Knights of St Columba said:

" We like to help where we can, and helping resident or visiting children, whether through injury, operation or general need is a good cause. The new wheelchair will help children access Carlisle, and the surrounding areas to visit places of interest ensuring their comfort and hopefully allow them to enjoy what is on offer in the area.’’
