Performance Management

We want to provide the best possible services to our residents so we need to monitor our performance to see how good we really are.

One of the ways we monitor how we perform is through the use of national performance indicators. The Government requires all councils to collect data on areas such as waste, planning, benefits and housing. Historically the Government have used the Best Value Performance Indicator framework to measure the Council's performance but from April 2008 these were replace by a new National Indicator Set.

Carlisle City Council has developed a new performance framework which will include all required indicators from the National Indicator Set, retain some of the old Best Value Performance Indicators and include locally defined performance indicators. We regularly compare our performance against all other district councils. Over the past four years we have demonstrated a continuous improvement. A significant proportion of our indicators are performing in the top 25% or above average compared to others.
