Special educational needs - placement in mainstream schools

Will my child, who has Special Educational Needs, be educated full–time in a mainstream school?

The LEA wherever possible aims to give all parents the option of local mainstream school education for their child. This obviously depends on the individual needs and circumstances of the child. There are very occasionally such exceptional needs that they can be best catered for in a more specialist environment. When officers of the LEA are supporting parent with this decision they will be bearing in mind what they consider to be the best option for the child. It is also possible in some circumstances to be educated for some of the child’s week in a mainstream setting and for some of that week in a special school setting. This is called a dual placement.
