Smokefree

Smokefree Legislation came into force on July 1st 2007.

The Health Act 2006 requires all work places, public places and vehicles used for work to be Smokefree. The Act and its regulations will ban smoking in enclosed and substantially enclosed public places and workplaces, including vehicles, with some exceptions.

There is widespread public support to eliminate smoking in public places, including places of entertainment and workplaces.

Officers of the City Council will continue to provide education & advice to businesses once the legislation is in force.

Determined or blatant disregard for the law may be dealt with in a more formal manner. Anyone wishing to report a breach of the new legislation should contact The Food Health and Safety Team on 01228 817336.
