Greenbox collections

YES PLEASE!

To avoid causing a litter problem it would be helpful if residents could follow the example opposite, showing the ideal way to leave your Greenbox out for collection.  Paper is stacked to the side of the box, not loose on top, where it could blow away and cans are crushed where possible.

A huge thank you for your efforts - we are now recycling 48.75% of all your household rubbish!

Food & Drink Carton Recycling is coming!

We're delighted to announce that Carlisle residents will shortly be able to recycle their food and drinks cartons (e.g. Tetrapaks) at some of our larger recycling sites.  Recycling banks for these materials will be located at: Asda, Morrisons and Tescos (Rosehill).  Please wash and squash your cartons where possible.  The scheme is part of a six month trial in conjunction with Tetra Pak Ltd.  Sorry but we cannot recycle these cartons in Greenbags or Greenboxes.  Look out for the banks at these locations soon!

Bulky Waste Collections

Carlisle City Council introduced a charge for the collection of Bulky Household Waste items from April 1 2009; however you may still be eligible for 4 free collections per annum depending on the items you would like us to collect.

Changes to Carlisle City Council's Greenbox Kerbside Recycling Collection Service

Carlisle City Council has appointed a new contractor to undertake its popular Greenbox kerbside recycling service. The new contractor is FOCSA UK Ltd who take over the contract from Cumbria Waste Recycling on Tuesday 1st June 2010. The Greenbox kerbside recycling service collects source segregated paper, glass and cans from 46,000 households across urban and rural Carlisle.

The new contract will deliver a significant financial saving to the authority. However, because the new contract will no longer be delivered in partnership with Eden District Council, a number of operational changes have had to be made which are as follows:
