Disability Facilities Grants

  • These grants are made available by Carlisle City Council to ensure that wherever possible, care and support is provided to disabled people to remain and be cared for in their own homes.

  • Financial assistance up to £30,000 is available to provide aids and adaptations, so that people who need help to gain better access to, or within their home, can maintain their independence for as long as possible.

  • Items which can be included are stairlifts; level access showers; ramps; ground floor extensions for bedrooms / en-suite shower rooms etc.

  • Means testing applies in certain cases, but this excludes aids and adaptations for children and those receiving Income Support or Guaranteed Pension Credit.

  • Carlisle City Council will only deal with an enquiry for a Disabled Facilities Grant once they receive a referral from an 'Occupational Therapist', so please contact them first at Social Services (Telephone 01228 227000).
