Improving Cumbria's Energy (ICE)

Bookmysurvey Ltd has been working with Carlisle City Council for 3 years now, providing a superb insulation service for householders in Carlisle.  Together we are now trying to identify as many homes as possible in Carlisle District rural wards that have solid walls and are in need of loft insulation.

If you own or privately rent your home and it was built before 1920, has solid walls and less than 100mm (4”) of loft insulation you may qualify for the following;

Loft insulation (less than 100mm existing)

Reflective radiator panels (4)

Low energy light bulbs (2)

All for £49* (normal price £275 - £300)

OR, alternatively, if you own or privately rent your home and it was built after 1920, you may qualify for the following;

Cavity wall insulation - £75* (normal price £250 - £300)

Loft insulation (less than 100mm existing) - £75* (normal price £350 - £500)

Householders who are over 60, have a child under 5 or are on certain benefits may qualify for free insulation in rural wards.

Funds are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  If you want to make an application you can book a survey directly by either calling 0800 093 5239 or booking online at bookmysurvey.  You will need to quote ICE to access the insulation at the discounted price.

Wards covered by this scheme are:

Burgh, Brampton, Dalston, Great Corby & Geltsdale, Hayton, Irthing, Longtown & Rockcliffe, Lyne, Stanwix rural and Wetheral.

Now available across the whole of Carlisle

Cavity wall insulation for only £75*

* All prices are subject to survey.

The Council has teamed up with Second Nature, a local firm, to offer a 20% discount off Thermafleece loft insulation.  This is manufactured with 60% British sheep wool and 40% recycled polyester.  Please contact Bookmysurvey Ltd on 0800 093 5239 for further information.

Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and Infrastructure, said:

“About 45% of the homes in Carlisle City Council have cavity walls and have been taking advantage of the huge discounts available for cavity wall insulation with our partners Bookmysurvey Ltd over the last three years. For those living in homes with solid walls it’s been a slightly different story. Grants have traditionally favoured cavity walls because it is quick and easy to install insulation and doesn’t cost a fortune.

“For homes with solid walls the answer is a lot more complicated. Our new ICE project offers some simple solutions targeted specifically at hard to treat homes. The cost of the package normally would be £280 but with the help of our partners Bookmysurvey Ltd, we’ve got the cost down to £49. However funds are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.”

Cllr Olwyn Luckley, Portfolio Holder for Health and Community Development, said:

“We have worked with Bookmysurvey (BMS) for a number of years now, and are consistently impressed with the professional way that they provide energy efficiency and fuel poverty services to residents of Carlisle. Thanks to our partnership arrangement with BMS, we have reached our targets in relation to the Home Energy Conservation Act, and have attracted a considerable amount of external funding into the area. Many thousands of residents are now living in warmer, healthier homes, and we look forward to an ongoing productive partnership with BMS, to continue to improve the lives of our residents.”
