Lewis Watson
Today’s generation of aspiring young musicians often have just one choice in their pursuit of a career – to take the plunge and independently mastermind a digital cottage industry from which their songs can be discovered by a like-minded audience. That’s precisely what Oxford’s twenty-year-old singer-songwriter Lewis Watson did. After gradually building his own fan-base, his debut EP ‘It’s Got Four Sad Songs On It BTW’ topped the iTunes singer-songwriter chart on the first day of release, outselling the likes of Adele, Madonna and Ed Sheeran in the process. It’s a model that plenty of artists aspire to recreate, but few ever make any serious progress with. Ages 14+ (ages 14-15 to be accompanied by an adult).

Bird Watching Evening Walk 5
This is the last walk of a series of 5, organised by the N. Cumbria Local Group of the RSPB with the aim of encouraging an interest in bird-watching in Carlisle. People with an interest in birds but none or limited experience of identifying them can spend time with RSPB members. This walk is a bit outside of the town, but chosen because it offers the potential of a wider range of bird species. It is also a bit more strenuous than the previous ones. It is still a gentle pace on a public footpath, with a lot of time stopped, looking for birds in trees, bushes & on the river, but the paths are just tracks in the pasture and need more effort to walk. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Children welcome if accompanied by an adult. Please note there is a possibility of cattle in the pasture. Start beside St Mary church, Rockcliffe, Carlisle, CA6 4AF (please consider residents' access when parking).

An Evening with Melvyn Bragg
Wigton born author and broadcaster, Melvyn Bragg will talk about his new novel "Grace and Mary". Set in northern Cumbria, it is the story of four generations and two remarkable women - a mother and the daughter she scarcely knew. Five years since his last novel, Remember Me, Melvyn Bragg returns with another deeply sensitive novel. Grace & Mary is a novel of remarkable scope telling the story of John and his elderly mother, Mary. As Mary's grip on the present declines, John reawakens her memories through music and photographs, only to discover her painful longing for the mother she barely knew - Grace. Melvyn Bragg fuses Mary's childhood memories with his own imagination, and gives her the chance to get to know the mother who had been absent from her life for so long. After his talk, there will be time to meet Melvyn who will be signing books and answering any further questions you may have.

On their latest album, Panic Of Girls, Blondie glances backward but resolutely moves forward, remaining keenly observant of street-level pop culture and continuing to find inspiration in the musical melting pot of New York City. Blondie has continued to be a powerhouse live act, attracting audiences around the world and becoming the most successful band to reunite from the class of ’77. Blondie are hitting the road again in support of Panic Of Girls, acc
