Shopmobility

is a scheme which provides powered scooters andwheelchairs (both manual and powered) for people with mobility difficulties, to help them shop and use the facilities of Carlisle City Centre.

Better Access: Practical Building Details  is a booklet produced by Carlisle City Council Building Control Section as a result of the frequent questions asked by architects, designers and builders. The advice contained in it includes the experiences of disabled peple themselves and in particular, Carlisle Access.

Disability Access Grant Policy

The City Council's Disability Access Grants are intended to provide financial incentive and assistance to occupiers of certain buildings in order to make them more accessible and useable by disabled people.

The grant applies to buildings used by charitable and non-profit making organisations, because of their limited financial resources. Such buildings might be:

Access Statements

To assist Carlisle Building Control in making judgements about whether proposals make reasonable provision for disabled people, an Access Statement should be provided at the time that plans are deposited or a building notice given. This may also need to be updated to reflect decisions made on site. The form is designed to give guidance on the information required.
